Linda Smith-Day 4 in San Diego

Email from Duane and Linda:
The testing and evaluation continued today with a right heart catherization where they told us the pressures in her arteries on her lungs was measured at 800+. A normal persons pressure is around 150-200. The left heart cath was a success in that no arteries were blocked so she won't need any by-passes done. Some people need that done in conjunction with the PTE surgery. The good news after being in surgery all morning for both the catherization's is that she will have the surgery next week on Wednesday at 6:00 a.m. They have given her the weekend off to recover from today and will install a Greenfield Filter on Monday morning. Another incision in her groin area to install the filter in the artery in her abdomen. She is tired and taking a nap right now. The Bannister house has been great. There are 3 families here going through this same thing at different stages so we talk about recovery times and what everyone is going through.One of the doctors that did the procedure today was talking to some nurses about last nights BYU win and I asked him if he was a fan. He said he was an alumni. After talking to him before the surgery I found out that he is a bishop down here. Both Linda and I had a good feeling about the care she would have under his hand. We are looking in the phone book to find a ward to go to this weekend and have now found one. Funny how things come together from the beginning of this ordeal. Inspiration I'm sure. (Duane)
